HISTORY
Up until ten years ago the R.N.L.I. coast team worked from home, their vehicles and various boatyards. A decision was made to equip each Division with a designated building which would be a base to work from, a repair facility and a specific area of contact for the lifeboat stations. Geographically and logistically it was felt that the best region to look for such a property was the Teesside area.
In the October of 1994 a building was found on Teesside Industrial Estate, which fulfilled our requirements. These premises on Perry Avenue served us, and our Stations well for seven years. As the Divisional Base concept developed it became apparent that a larger, purpose built facility was required to continue the excellent work for our volunteer crews and supporters. This building would accommodate a larger working area for administration and engineering, a training and meeting venue and an improved stores facility.
A site on Teesside Industrial Estate was purchased and ground works on the new building commenced in January 2001. All works were completed by the middle of August and the Base Staff moved in on 5th September 2001.
This brings us up to today where the whole team are privileged to be working in excellent conditions and proudly fly the flag of the R.N.L.I.
