The D class was the first RNLI inflatable, introduced in 1963. It has a single outboard engine and is ideal for rescues close to shore in fair - to - moderate conditions. It can be righted manually by the crew after capsize.
The North Division has Twenty fore of the D class lifeboats operating in the division.
